The Community Consolidated School District 21 board of education during its June meeting approved a $165,038 contract with Patriot Pavement Maintenance, based in Wheeling, to sealcoat and restripe the parking lots and playground areas at each of the district’s 13 schools.
“This project will give each of our buildings a fresh overhaul for the 2023-2024 school year and potentially assist in elevating the recess/lineup possibilities and parking lot processes,” said Micheal DeBartolo, assistant superintendent for finance and operations.
The project comes as the district reviews its parking lot design, which may include configurations to improve traffic flow over the coming school year in some areas already studied. DeBartolo added that the work with Patriot will allow the areas around playgrounds to come up to date and “become outlets for students so everyone has a number of options to play, be it in the field, on the blacktop or on the playground itself.”
